Character Profile- Reed of the Lonely Rock from "Alandra Whistle"

 Who is Reed?

Grand Wizard Reed of the Lonely Rock is a major character in "Alandra Whistle: Witch in Training." He is Alandra's beloved magic teacher, and one of the most powerful wizards in all of Ventus.

Character History

Reed was born in the year 9970 of the Magic Council Era to Bleu and Vert Pallette. The couple died when Reed was a few months old due to a terrible plague, and so the boy was raised in an orphanage. When his talent for magic was discovered in 9975, he was quickly enrolled into the Magic School of Figaro in the city of Domina.

There, Reed was quickly deemed a "Problem Child" due to his disinterest in participating in class. One of his teachers, Hilda of the Snow Fields, took a special interest in Reed to discover what was wrong with him. That is how she found that Reed was a prodigy in magic, possessing a level of skill more akin to someone ten years his senior.

At around age eight Reed met the dragon frog that would become his familiar, whom he named Surly. Surly would act as Reed's partner from that day onward.

Reed's talents for magic earned him an early graduation, and at age nine, he began his Apprenticeship under Hilda herself. But soon the seasoned witch discovered that not only did Reed's skills surpass her own, but so did his ambitions. Reed wished to become a Grand Wizard, and join the Magic Council.

As a teenager, Reed ventured to ShenLongGuo to study under Grand Wizard Ao Zheng, the Claw that Razes the Mountain. For two years Reed stood outside his castle gates, demanding to be trained. Ao Zheng eventually relented, giving the young boy his first taste in actual struggle. But from this tutelage, Reed met Grand Wizard Khebi of the Eternally Shifting Sands, who would become one of his best friends.

At age eighteen, the Dark Wizard Malphoras threatened the world with his dragons. Reed stood up against him, and after a mighty battle, felled the evil wizard. This act helped ascend him to the status of Grand Wizard, and earned him a spot on the Magic Council.

As a Grand Wizard, Reed became known for being stern and hard to impress. For twelve years, he'd fail any prospective student that sought his tutelage. It was not until the year ten thousand of the Magic Council era that Reed would meet his first apprentice, Alandra...

Relationships

Surly: Surly is Reed's Familiar who acts as his partner, confidant, as well as his voice of reason. When Reed's emotions get the better of him, Surly helps calm him down and think rationally.

Hilda: Hilda is the closest thing Reed's ever had to a parental figure. Although he's long surpassed her, he still refers to her as Master.

Alandra: is Reed's apprentice. The two are very close.

Khebi of the Eternally Shifting Sands: Reed's best male friend, and the one to nominate him to the Magic Council.

Aaina of the Red Singing Mountain: Reed's good friend and fellow Council member. Voted Yes for him to join.

Kim Eunsol the Silver Moon Maiden of the Kim Clan: Reed's female best friend and fellow Council member. Is in love with him, but he doesn't know it. He loves her back, but doesn't know it, either.

Joham Chopin, Maestro of a Thousand Instruments: A fellow council member, he and Reed hold each other in high esteem. Voted Yes on Reed joining the Council.

Ao Zheng the Claw that Razes the Mountain: Reed's second teacher in magic. Reed greatly respects, and fears, this dragon.

Kya: Reed's ex-girlfriend, who broke up with him when his Council duties began interfering with their love life. This event lead to Reed losing interest in getting stronger and being the best Grand Wizard he could be.

Trivia

  • Reed is the youngest member of the Magic Council, at thirty years of age.
  • He is also the weakest member of the Magic Council, due mostly to him allowing his strength to plateau once he reached eighteen. When he starts getting serious with his magic again, he'll easily outrank most of his peers.
  • If magic could be scaled in Ventus, Reed would be a twelve on a scale from one to ten. The strongest wizard in the Council, however, would be a forty. The average wizard in the world would be a four.
  • Reed stands at six foot even.
