Five authors I greatly admire
You read the title, you know what this is! Let's get to it!
1- Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra
Dude wrote Don Quixote, enough said. No, seriously, ENOUGH SAID. Don Quixote is one of the GREATEST novels ever written, if not THE greatest. When you've got THAT on your resume, well, that's all you need. And if you don't know Don Quixote, well... get yourself to Project Gutenberg, look up Don Quixote, and get to reading. And when you're done, you'll know why I don't need to say more about why Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra deserves ALL the admiration.
2- Beatrix Potter
Beatrix Potter is the woman who wrote Peter Rabbit, and thanks to her books, I've made bibliophiles out of students who used to dislike reading. Honestly, you can't miss with a Beatrix Potter book; I'm yet to find a book of hers I can dislike! You can make an ENTIRE class curriculum out of her works alone; in fact, as an English teacher, I HIGHLY recommend it!
The Tales of Peter Rabbit, Squirrel Nutkins, Jemima Puddle-Duck, Tom Kitten, ALL great classics that DESERVE to be read!
3- William Shakespeare
The Miguel de Cervantes of the English language, honestly. Sure, he didn't write anything that could come close to Don Quixote, but don't sleep on his works! He did Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Midsummer Night's Dream, As You Like It, Hamlet, and a few other plays you may have been forced to read back in high school or college. He also came up with a few words and phrases in the English language, like bedroom, eyeball, puking, and so on. Kind of a big deal, I'd say.
4- Manuel Zeno Gandía
Pretty much one of the greatest Puerto Rican writers in history, the dude wrote THE definitive Puerto Rican novel, La Charca. He was also active politically, helping to found the Independence movement for Puerto Rico. Dude was as anti-colonialist as it got!
5- John Ronald Ruel Tolkien
I love fantasy, it's my favorite genre. And, well, you can't be a fantasy lover and NOT have either CS Lewis or JRR Tolkien in your list of authors you greatly admire! It's just not done! In my case, though, it's Lord of the Rings over Narnia, so it's Tolkien over Lewis!
